A coworker and I made it to Tuk and back again today. Driving on the ice road is pretty cool. Mostly it is snow covered this time of year, but there are some clear patches. There were also some rough patches, but for the most part you wouldn’t know that you weren’t driving on a snow covered paved road.
Tuk is a pretty cool place…pretty much as I imagined it actually. It is barren since it is above the tree line, but it seems to have a charm all its own. I didn’t get a chance to meet many of the people from there, so I can’t really comment on them, except to say that the ones I did meet were very friendly.
We saw two animals on the trip one Red Fox and one Lynx. Seeing the Lynx was a treat – it’s not every day you see one of them. Unfortunately both animals were far too fast for me to have gotten any pictures. You’ll have to content yourself with these:

This is the ice road. It doesn't look like much, but it is basically a lifeline to the people that live in Tuk. The tourists love it too!

Hope you enjoyed the photos. I'm off to Aklavik tomorrow. That’s all for now. More tomorrow.
Cheers!
