Christmas day was nice. Despite all we didn’t have, we took advantage of that which we did have – each other. We had a roof over our heads, all the heat we needed, and lots to eat. Plus we were happy. They don’t sell that at the mall!
We went to a gathering last night and met a few people. Some of them are almost as new to Inuvik as we are, while others have been here for years. The people here seem to be pretty nice. We had numerous offers of furniture loans. Consequently we have two folding chairs and some patio furniture. These, in addition to the picnic table in the jeep made Christmas dinner a little more enjoyable. It was nice to be able to sit at a table rather than eating off the floor.
Lorie and I started the day by preparing the turkey and vegetables. Once the turkey was in the oven, we opened the gifts that we had brought with us, and some others that had been sent to us. Lorie gave me some nice sweaters, and I gave her some pj’s and warm socks. We also got a new Paderno pot and silverware from Lorie’s sister Shannah (there, Shannah – you finally got your name mentioned on the internet!!). These gifts actually came in handy today. We got numerous other treats and gifts from family and friends. Thanks to you all!
Dinner was excellent! It really was a team effort. Both Lorie and I worked on it between and betwixt the calls to home, and watching some of the DVD’s that we got as gifts.
We spent the rest of the evening just relaxing, eating too much and watching DVD’s. It was a pretty quiet Christmas, but an enjoyable one all the same. We hope that you were able to have time with your family and friends. And like us, we hope that you made some memories this holiday season.
Cheers!

Merry Christmas Lorne and Lorie. We are all over the map this year, I'm sure it is very different for your parents back in Newfoundland. But it was a good one for us all the same. Eric had a blast and he opened every gift...one by one all by himself...a slow process but quite fun for all of us. Well, we hope you have a Very Happy New Year and get settled into your new life there. Thanks so much for the gifts, they were all right on the mark..as usual!
Take Care, Lori, Danny & Eric
