Already this morning we have received another invitation for Christmas Dinner. It seems as though we will have no shortage of food! We are new to the community and everyone seems curious to hear our story, where we’re from and why we are here.
I seem to have finally convinced Lorie to wait until Christmas Day to open the gifts. The trick is to keep her busy. What with all these social engagements, there hasn’t even been enough time to open a gift. That works out though; we are so busy today and we will not be busy at all tomorrow, so it only makes sense to save the gift opening until Christmas Day.
A special thanks is in order for our families. Both families gave us an advance gift of cash, and that cash was used to buy this laptop…and this laptop is the tool that has been used to bring you this blog all the way across Canada, and now as well. Thanks to the Fyfe’s and the Browne’s. Bravo!
We have come up with yet more innovative solutions to facilitate livability in this otherwise furniture-less existence. Turns out the cargo cover in the jeep is also a folding table. Woo-hoo! The plastic bucket that holds the dog’s food can double as a chair. I have yet to figure our how to come up with a second chair. Something will come to mind, I suppose.
Another observation of life in Inuvik…the locals mostly use brooms to clean steps…not shovels. It seems as though that any snow we get is very light and fluffy, and generally only in the smallest of quantities. Almost no one here has snow blowers, in fact I have yet to see one at all.
I suppose it being Christmas Eve and all, I’ll take this time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. We hope that you all are able to take the time to enjoy the company of your family and friends. Remember those that are less fortunate, and if you can help them out. And, please, if you drink, don’t drive.
Cheers!
Lorne and Lorie
