We moved the few things we had from the hotel to the house and did our best to set them up. We quickly realized that we were short some things for the kitchen, so we made a trip to the store (less than 400 metres away) to pick them up.
Otherwise we spent the afternoon arranging clothes, and such. I had some gift wrapping to do, so I did that. It was pretty quiet around the house and, without even a radio, we were at a loss as to what we could turn on for noise. We do have the laptop and a good internet connection, so I searched the net for broadcast radio stations. There were tons to choose from and before long I had CBC radio from St. John’s playing. The quality wasn’t the best but it did us.
We have a couple of invitations on the table for dinner on Christmas Day– five in fact. We have decided to turn them all down and just do our own thing. Rather than have dinner with the folks that invited us, we will visit with them after dinner.
Despite this being a smaller place, there seems to be many more social opportunities here. We were out to a friends place tonight, having been invited over for dinner. There we met friends of theirs, who invited us over to their place tomorrow night for a pot luck get together. In addition to that we have at least one place to visit on Christmas day evening. In that respect the customs seem very much like Newfoundland.
I mentioned that we had picked up a few things at the store. Lorie is ever resourceful and actually found some salt beef for me to have with my Christmas dinner! I think she secretly likes the stuff too! Don’t worry Lorie, I won’t tell!
Well that about it for today. We had fun tonight at the friends place. We have to go on line now and try to find a recipe for Muskox Meat Balls – which is what we promised to bring to the pot luck tomorrow night.
Cheers!
