Weather: - 18 and clear
Sunrise – Sun? What’s sun?
Sunset – Hmmm…very funny!
The winter solstice is December 22. That is the shortest day of the year, which is of course, irrelevant to us here. It will be another 17 days before we see any sun. Despite the darkness, we are still doing relatively well.
The twilight was very brief today, but relatively bright so Lorie was able to take a few pictures around town. Here are a few of the sights from around Inuvik.
Here's a picture of our rental property. The green colour is pretty nice; why they would choose to put orange trim on there, I have no idea! It was just renovated this fall.
This is one of the decorations that the town puts up. Given the extreme cost of electricty here (about 36 cents a kilowatt hour versus about eight cents in Newfoundland), you won't see too many of these type of decorations!
This is the only place to buy liquor and beer - the liquor store. It's a pretty secure facility; notice there are no windows.
This is Stantons, one of the four small grocery stores in town. This one is more of a bulk goods store. Some of the prices here are cheaper than at the North Mart.
This is the North Mart. I've written about it more than once. You can get just about anything in here - food, guns and ammo, clothes, toys, KFC, snowmobiles, etc. It also has a drug store and a furniture store.
This is the famous "Igloo Church". It was built in the late 1960's and is touted as the most photographed building in Inuvik. We haven't been in there yet, but we are told that there are some really neat paintings and other artwork in there.
Cheers!

So glad to read Lorie has a job and that you are becoming so climatized - the food looks great and sounds like it would be something I would not mind trying however, what happened to that diet you were going to start. Oh!I forgot "food and booze" your two favorite things - watch your waist line and your ticker.
Really enjoy your dialogue and seeing your pictures.
Take care driving - hope you have a great Christmas
Linda
