Well, we got a few things done today. We signed the lease for our rental; we will be in there by December 15th. Until then we will be staying at the hotel. I also took some time to go into work and meet my new boss and a few of my coworkers. I will be officially starting tomorrow.
We did some more looking around town and scouted out some grocery shopping outlets. We found a place that sells in bulk, and it looks like that will be the place we will frequent. Many of the prices are higher than we are used to, but some of the prices were quite reasonable. I compared the place to kind of a mini Price Club – but with groceries only.
We also visited the post office today and picked up the large volume of mail that was waiting for us. As per usual, there were far more bills than there were cheques!
We did some other housekeeping items, like applying for a Territorial health card, and checking out the internet services, phone services, cable – things like that.
It is cold again today, and it gets hard to start the jeep, even with the block heater plugged in. Lots of things don’t work correctly. For example, the doors won’t close, even if you slam them, the rear window defroster works only marginally and door locks only work occasionally.
We continue to meet many Newfoundlanders around town – the lady that cut my hair, the cashier in the grocery store, the highway enforcement officer, the guy staying in the room next to us – the list goes on.
Tomorrow is my first day of work, so I will leave this entry a little light. I am looking forward to getting back into a routine again, at least as much a routine as you can expect to have while living in a hotel.
Cheers!
